Averbukh compared the legacy of the Sochi Olympics to Gagarin’s space flight

Famous choreographer Ilya Averbukh recalled how he participated in the preparation of the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, emphasizing that nothing like this had been done in the world.

The Sochi Olympic Games took place from February 7 to 23, 2014.

— I would be nostalgic for the way I carried the torch in Sochi, but these are ordinary emotions. Not quite ordinary, but fleeting. I was much luckier when I was director of one of the opening blocks of these Games and one of the closing ceremony blocks. It was very cool. I remain convinced that after our opening ceremony, nothing like this has been done in the world. I was at the Olympics in China, even there it wasn’t possible. For us, emotionally, it was a work of art. Moreover, we rehearsed here at VDNKh.

The Sochi Olympic Games are one of the most memorable stories in our country. 10 years have passed, but it feels like it was yesterday. Sochi is a wonderful city, it was like that before. However, its new part – Sirius and the Olympic Park – was made practically from scratch. I think that all this can only be appreciated across generations, like Gagarin’s flight, ”reports the correspondent of , according to Averbukh’s words.
