Athletistic / Figure skating. Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of Russian President Vladimir Putin, assessed the development of figure skating through the prism of the exclusion of Russian skaters from participation in international competitions.

“In figure skating, Russia occupies the first places in most disciplines. Everywhere except, probably, the men. It is clear that they are not poor there, we still have to be objective. Our men still have room to work. And in all other disciplines we are leaders. If the leaders abandon the process, then the competition ceases to be full-fledged, “Peskov said according to Sport-Express.

In March 2022, the Board of Directors of the International Skating Union (ISU) suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes from participation in international tournaments due to events in Ukraine.

In June 2023, the ISU Council extended the suspension, but called for exploring ways to implement the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Committee of March 2023. It recommends that athletes from these two countries be allowed to participate in international competitions in a neutral status and subject to a number of conditions.
