Skier of the Udmurt Republic national team Arina Maksimova told that the visibility on the track during the mass start of students at Spartakiad was even worse than shown in the video.
On March 8, during a race with a general start in the village of Estosadok, several skiers were injured more or less seriously following a collapse. Maksimova was among 14 athletes who failed to reach the finish line.
— When you left for departure, was there fog?
“We couldn’t even really go out to warm up. We were told the runway was temporarily closed because the tankette was rolling. We did not have time to undertake the most dangerous descents. Visibility was poor and it was foggy. Even when they walked to the waxing stations, they were hard to see.
— Have you considered not starting because of the conditions?
– No, I didn’t. You have to race for the team and earn points.
— The reaction from FLGR management may not seem very pleasant to skiers. How did you react to the words of Elena Vyalbe, who said that there was nothing terrible in the rubble?
“It seems to me that she didn’t immediately have an idea of the whole situation. That just doesn’t seem to be the case in the video. In fact, the visibility was even worse than shown in the video.
– Even worse?
– Yes yes. There was a difference.
— Were there any words of support from the leadership of the FLGR and the regional federation?
— There were many words of support from different people. There was nothing from the management,” Maksimova told .
