Monza built a two-goal lead before the break. Pessina scored in the eighth minute, and 10 minutes later Dani Mota scored.
From the second half, Ukrainian Ruslan Malinovsky entered the game – and Genoa bounced back. First, Gudmundsson missed a penalty (and corrected for the finishing), and Vitinha soon scored.
Monza snatched three points thanks to the entry of Daniel Maldini. The son of legendary Milan defender Paolo Maldini came on in the 75th minute and scored five minutes later.
Genoa is in 12th place in Serie A. Monza has moved up to 10th position.
In the next round, Monza will host Cagliari on March 16. Genoa will play Juventus a day later.
