Skaters Varvara Zhdanova and Timur Babaev-Smirnov, who performed in ice dancing, told that they worked on the tournament program number for about two weeks and also thanked actor Sergei Bezrukov for the special prize.
The tournament of the show program “Russian Challenge” among figure skaters took place on Saturday in St. Petersburg. Zhdanova and Babaev-Smirnov performed in Russian national costumes to folk songs and received a special award “for their sense of humor” from actor Sergei Bezrukov.
“Unfortunately, we had little time, only two weeks. But we really tried to do something original and fun. The idea was suggested to us by our excellent team of coaches, for which we would like to thank them and the people who helped with the costumes. We accepted the idea with great enthusiasm and put the act together quite quickly, after which we worked on it.
When Sergei Bezrukov presented us with a personal award, we were incredibly surprised. We were so happy to play on the same ice with the Olympic champions that when Sergei Bezrukov called our names, we simply didn’t believe it! Of course we were very happy! It is a great honor to have such a famous person celebrate our performance. A special thank you for the kind words he said to us after the end of the tournament, it inspires us and gives us strength! This is a completely new and very interesting event for us.
In general, I would like to say that the whole tournament was just great, a huge charge of positivity. The incredible support from the fans energized me and gave me strength. A big thank you to the public for their warm welcome! A big thank you to the organizers for a real vacation! “We are very happy to end the season on such a pleasant note,” Zhdanova and Babaev-Smirnov told .
Zhdanova and Babaev-Smirnov took 8th place at the Russian Championship and 7th place at the Spartakiad of the Strongest.
