Promoter compliments AJ, but still considers “The Gypsy King” the number one heavyweight
Frank WarrenWBC champion promoter Tyson Furyspoke about his ward’s reaction to the victory of his compatriot Anthony Joshua over the ex-UFC champion Francis Ngannou.
“Tyson was very impressed. I sat next to him and he supported Joshua. We both supported him because we wanted him to do it, and of course he did it in style.”
“AJ has a new coach in Ben Davison and he’s obviously getting the best out of him. He had two fights in Saudi Arabia, which brought him back into the public eye. The first is against Otto Wallin, and the other is against Francis Ngannou; and he did what he had to do.”
“But for me Tyson is the number one heavyweight. He’s a lineal champion and he’s done it at the highest level. And like I said, on May 18th we’re going to find out who the best heavyweight is when he faces the guy who beat AJ twice.”
Let us remember that on the night of March 9, Joshua defeated Francis Ngannou. Already in the first round, the Briton shocked the Cameroonian with a powerful blow, knocking him down. Francis managed to get up and continue the fight, but in the second round Joshua carried out another great attack and knocked out his opponent.
Fury and WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO heavyweight title holder Alexander Usik will fight for the title of absolute world champion on May 18 in Riyadh. WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman announced that an agreement had been reached between the boxers for a re-fight.
