“I definitely don’t have more physical activity today than during my sports career. Back then, we trained five to six hours a day. Now I don’t need a lot of training. This what I do now is probably two hours a day. “I do this to maintain fitness – physical and moral,” Kostomarov quotes in the Championship.

Roman Kostomarov fell ill with pneumonia in January 2023. The illness led to complications, the athlete developed limb necrosis. For this reason, doctors had to partially amputate Roman’s limbs. He is now continuing the rehabilitation and prosthetic processes, but is already participating in ice shows.

Kostomarov, partnered with Tatyana Navka, became Olympic ice dancing champion in 2006. They also won two gold medals together at the World Championships and also became three-time European champions. After the Turin Olympic Games in 2006, they announced the end of their sporting career.
