“It was a mess. Everyone tried not to cross paths with each other” – skier Koryakova about the collapse of students at Spartakiad

Skier Anna Koryakova on commented on the failed mass start of the student Spartakiad, as a result of which several athletes were injured, noting that they tried not to harm each other.

On Friday, during the women’s race from the general start in the village of Estosadok (Krasnodar Territory), several skiers were injured as a result of a collapse. The president of the Russian Ski Racing Federation (FLGR), Elena Vyalbe, told that two athletes were in hospital: one suffered a head injury, the second had a broken arm. In total, 14 skiers failed to finish on the Laura slope. Koryakova finished first.

“The girl I was following didn’t fall directly in front of me, but slightly to the left, so I moved forward, I was in the red group, and it was easier for me not to make it. And it was more difficult for those driving behind to go around, there was such a mess that not everyone could make it. “Everyone fell so as not to cross paths with each other,” Koryakova said in the program “Gromko” of the channel.

The technical delegate of the Russian Ski Racing Federation, Igor Belomestnov, noted that a few hours before the start of the race, snow fell and completely closed the ski slope.

— As for the preparation of the track, literally two hours before the start, dense snow fell, not spring snow. It completely closed the entire ski slope. We can say that this did not exist. We have made a decision. We went to the track and took a look. After returning to the track there was no more ice, that’s not true,” added Belomestnov.

The investigation department of the Adler region organized an inspection into the incident. The progress and results of the inspection were monitored by the investigation department.
