Athletistic/ Figure skating. The other day it became known that Kamila Valieva, disqualified for doping, was nevertheless excluded from the Russian national team.

Previously, the skater, despite the decision of the CAS, was still on the national team list, which raised questions for many.

“Valiyeva is no longer in the Russian national team. Everything was done in accordance with the legislative documents,” stressed Alexander Kogan, general director of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR).

Remember that Valieva was disqualified for four years by decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport at the end of January. The figure skater was also deprived of awards for the adult period of her career. A month later, an appeal against the CAS verdict was registered with the Swiss Federal Court.

It should be noted that during the period of suspension, Valieva does not have the opportunity to train with public money.

“Trust, but verify”: it is in this context that we can talk about ISU and Valieva. Despite the disqualification, the International Skating Union will continue to monitor the skater’s doping.

Kamila, who will not be able to compete until December 2025, has been included in the updated international doping control group for the 2023/24 season. Valieva has been the subject of special attention from the ISU since the summer of 2020, when she was first included on the inspected list. In addition to the ISU, Valieva is also tested for doping by RUSADA. In 2023, the organization checked the skater twice and in 2022 three times.

Regarding the fact that Valieva must still submit to doping controls, WADA made the following comment:

“We cannot comment on the ISU’s testing distribution plan. However, generally speaking, the athlete must, during the period of suspension, make himself available for out-of-competition testing by any anti-doping organization having jurisdiction in this matter. “This is necessary to ensure the overall integrity of the system when the athlete returns to competition,” the organization said in a statement.

Valieva was supported by many famous coaches, experts and officials. The Kremlin has even spoken out on this subject. The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, said that he considered the punishment imposed on Valieva to be unfair.

“We consider the decisions made regarding Valieva to be unfair. She is supported by the whole country,” Peskov said.

Currently, Valieva is prohibited from participating in tournaments included in the FFKKR calendar, training in public ice rinks and performing in government-funded shows.

Despite the doping scandal, Valieva tries not to get discouraged and devotes herself not only to training on the ice. Previously, the figure skater took part in television shows. For example, Camila starred in the travel show “Route for Two”. In it, the athlete explored the sights and unknown places of Russian cities. Valieva also appeared in the show “Confectioner. Children”.
