“It is impossible for me to understand why Stepanova supports the Russian president. I don’t know how she grew up and what values were instilled in her in the family. Personally, I don’t support any of this,” the Swedish publication said . Expressen quotes Karlsson as saying.
Since March 2022, Russian skiers have been suspended from participating in international competitions by decision of the Council of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS). These sanctions were imposed on the Russians due to the conduct of a special military operation (SVO) in Ukraine.
Veronika Stepanova is the leader of the general classification of the Russian Cross-Country Skiing Cup. The 22-year-old athlete scored 688 points over six stages. The final stage of the National Cup will take place from April 3 to 7 in Kirovsk (Murmansk region).
