The Kharkov team’s mentor hears for the first time about Manchester United’s interest in the young football player, but believes that the player deserves it
Head coach Metallista Andrey Anishchenko commented on rumors of interest Manchester United to one of the main talents of the Kharkov team – 16-year-old Kirill Digtyar.
“I’m hearing it for the first time. I don’t have such information, and it took me by surprise. Maybe Manchester United are watching, but I don’t know about it. In all likelihood, they saw him somewhere in the youth team.”
“This is a question for management, not for me. If Digtyar is sold to such a big club, then I only wish him good luck.”
“I would tell him to always believe in himself, his strength, his dream and never lose sight of it, persistently go towards it. Then the door to your dream will open. Digtyar has the absolute talent to play at a high level if he continues to work so hard. Everything is in his hands and head. There are always chances, you just need to use them. Many Ukrainians play successfully in the Premier League.”
“Kirill is a very talented guy with great potential, but he is still very young. He is physically strong and has already surpassed his age in development. I will also note that Digtyar is psychologically stable. This helps him play against older opponents.”
Let us remind you that yesterday journalist Igor Tsyganyk reported about the English grandee’s interest in the Ukrainian teenager. According to available information, representatives of Manchester United studied the actions of Digtyar in the matches of the Ukrainian U-17 national team.
Back in early 2022, 14-year-old Digtyar was involved in the matches of the Metalist first team at the winter training camp. In the spring of 2023, Kirill became the youngest football player in the history of the UPL. Digtyar entered the match between Metalist and Dnepr-1 (0:5) at the age of 15 years and 159 days. This season, the defender has played 13 matches for the club in all competitions, scoring three assists.
Last fall, Metalist took ninth place in Group A of the First League, gaining 14 points in 18 rounds. In the spring part of the season, Anishchenko’s team will fight for survival.
Digtyar plays as part of the Ukrainian national team in the elite round of qualifying for the 2024 European Championship. The blue-yellows, having won two victories in two rounds, are leading in Group 4. Today, March 12, in the last match of the mini-tournament, Ukraine U-17 will play with Slovakia. The meeting starts at 15:00.
