The son of the head of the UAF received a debut call to the ranks of the country’s youth team
Mentor Ukrainian national team U-19 Dmitry Mikhailenko commented on the challenge Christiana Shevchenko for the elite round qualifying matches European Youth Championship 2024.
“Christian plays as a right or left winger. They say that he can be used as a striker, but in the matches that I watched, I didn’t see him there.”
“He has quite decent statistics, he scored in the last seven matches. In terms of movements and body type, he is similar to his father. Fast, moves a lot. But he’s still too young to understand how talented he is.”
The Ukrainian U-19 national team will play in the elite round of qualifying for the 2024 European Youth Championship with teams from Switzerland, North Macedonia and Latvia. The matches of this qualifying stage will take place from 18 to 26 March 2024. Only the winner of the quartet will receive a ticket to the final part of the continental championship.
Blue-yellow coach Dmitry Mikhailenko called up 20 players. Among them is the son of UAF President Andrei Shevchenko Christian, who recently received a Ukrainian passport, as well as Dynamo defender Alexey Gusev and Shakhtar midfielder Viktor Tsukanov.
Euro 2024 U-19 will take place in Northern Ireland from 15 to 28 July 2024. The continental championship will simultaneously serve as a UEFA selection for the 2025 World Cup (U-20).
