Pogoda: ‘Lost to Chupkov at 200m with a fingernail’

swimming world championships Kirill Prigoda said he wasn’t upset about losing the 200m breaststroke at the Friendship Games, even though it was a fingernail distance.

Prigoda finished second in this distance, 0.06 seconds behind the world champion Anton Chupkov . On the third day of competition, he won bronze in the 50m breaststroke.

– I was not very tired at 200 m, I caught up with the drive of the fight with Anton. It was the best day of the year – both physically fit and in good spirits. I got up at the start with a desire to compete, with a desire to impose some kind of competition, but I didn’t think at all about the medals, whether I would be able to beat Anton or not either. As Vladimir Valeryevich Salnikov said, many athletes here will fight with a stopwatch. I basically agree with that. For top athletes, seconds are more important than medals. As for the 200m itself, the swim was steep. Losing 0.06 seconds is the distance of a fingernail. Not upset at all, I’m 26 and moved my result, which can be contested in major competitions. I will be happy to repeat it when they call us back,” Prigoda told reporters.

– Without Adam Peaty, what was the fight at the World Championship?

“Without it, unique badges were raffled off. Nicolo Martineghi won, I congratulate him. I watched the World Cup, I bit my elbows.
