Kogan sees the reason for the change in citizenship of the athletes not only in the desire to perform, but also in the desire to leave the country

General Director of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR) Alexander Kogan believes that Russian athletes can change their nationality not only because of the desire to compete, but also to leave the country.

– I don’t think the ISU Council, headed by the new president, will violate its own constitution, which spells out very clearly the rules for transferring athletes. In this regard, even now we are constantly interacting with a number of countries, including the so-called hostile ones, despite all the difficulties of the current moment. By the way, I can say that we receive quite a few requests from athletes to return to the country, moreover, many of these requests have already been met. Someone’s partner finished skating, and it turned out that no one needed the remaining skater, someone ran out of money, but there were no sponsors – there are different stories. There are those who simply rush around the world in search of a better life. In the abstract, a person asks us today for release to move to Germany, in two months he already wants to go to Hungary, and after a while – to Estonia. For me, this indicates first of all that the athlete does not want to ride, but just leave the country,” Kogan told RT.

Earlier, Honored Coach of the USSR in Figure Skating Tatyana Tarasova expressed the opinion that athletes cannot be accused of intending to change sports citizenship, because otherwise they risk losing their chances of success.
