Salnikov – about the possible performance of Russians at the Olympic Games: “The position according to the criteria has not changed”

President of the All-Russian Swimming Federation (RSF) Vladimir Salnikov told that the situation regarding the possible participation of Russian athletes in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris has not changed, nor has the attitude towards the criteria.

A meeting of the executive committee was held in Moscow on Thursday OCD . The meeting did not examine the question of the possible participation of Russians in neutral status in the Paris Games. ROC President Stanislav Pozdnyakov emphasized that neutral athletes are not part of the Russian Olympic team and therefore are not the responsibility of the ROC. Pozdnyakov also noted that he doubts whether the ROC leadership is still discussing the issue of admission criteria at the official level.

— As we already said during the speech from a neutral position: we consider the published criteria unacceptable. Our position on this issue has not changed. We therefore do not consider participation under such conditions possible.

— What if one of the athletes decides to qualify and compete in the Olympics?

— We have a corresponding decision from the Presidium. In this case, all risks related to performance are borne by the athlete himself,” Salnikov told .

International Olympic Committee (CIO ) announced in December 2023 that it would allow Russian athletes who successfully qualified for the Olympics in individual neutral status without a flag, anthem or other national symbol. The IOC also banned the participation of athletes associated with security forces or who have expressed support for the SVO. In February, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation Igor Levitin said that Vladimir Putin instructed the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation and the Republic of China to prepare proposals for the participation of Russians in the Olympic Games .

The Paris Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11.
