Figure skaters Anna Kolomenskaya and Artem Frolov, who practice ice dancing, said they followed all adult figure skating competitions before switching from figure skating to juniors.
On Wednesday, Kolomenskaya/Frolov performed a free dance in the final of the Russian Junior Grand Prix. Based on the sum of both programs, they scored 175.89 points and took second place, losing only to the Anna Shcherbakova/Egor Goncharov duo (180.42).
— What are your impressions of the Grand Prix final?
Frolov: This departure was our last of the season. In fact, it’s very nice that the tournament is held in Sochi, there is a pleasant atmosphere. The sun is a little lacking, but the weather is not bad compared to Moscow. I want to wake up in the morning and go to training. The performance turned out to be quite good, despite the stain on the twizzles, I would like to do without it. It happens to everyone, it’s no big deal.
Kolomenskaya: The last start of the season, the mistakes are no longer so painful, everything was cool.
— After the season, will you draw conclusions and work to stay in shape until the last start?
Frolov: The main thing is not to slow down, to work as we have done all season. We have made a lot of progress over the last two seasons, the volume of work has increased. We roll more ropes, work on the ground. Today’s mistake is, so to speak, an accident.
— The season turned out to be successful for you, you became winners of the Russian Championship, is this the most important thing for you?
Frolov: Yes, the dream came true. Maybe that made it mentally easier to perform in the Grand Prix Final. We gave 200% to the championship.
— To summarize your performance in juniors, what would you change if you had the opportunity?
Kolomenskaya: Even if during our junior career there were no very successful starts and skates, it is still an experience through which we learn to pull ourselves together and tune in correctly. You should not blame yourself for every mistake, you need to think about why it was necessary in order to draw conclusions and move on.
— What are your plans for the offseason and next season?
Kolomenskaya: Continue working at the same pace, set new programs, search for new images.
Frolov: Experiment, work on the choreography, do more work to engage the core, make more precise movements and work better with your feet. There is a lot of work to do.
— Are you thinking about the upcoming competition next season?
Frolov: There’s no point thinking about it now, we’ll do our job, please our fans and our coaches. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supported us throughout the season. We love and kiss everyone!
— Juniors have a big gap with adults due to differences in rhythmic dancing. Keep your opponents in sight?
Kolomenskaya: Of course, we watch all the competitions and keep an eye on the skaters’ programs. We will think about our opponents when we enter the ice in adult competitions, ”reports the correspondent of , reporting the words of Kolomenskaya and Frolov.
