Shakur Stevenson: Will someone ask Lomachenko if he will fight me after Kambosos?

The American boxer, who previously announced his retirement, still hopes to fight the Ukrainian ex-champion

WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson once again stated his desire to fight the former world champion in three weight categories Vasily Lomachenko.

“Will someone ask Loma if he will fight me after Kambosos?.. You are all asking the wrong guy,” the American wrote.

Previously, Stevenson repeatedly challenged Lomachenko to a fight, stating that Vasily was offered the largest fee for the fight.

In November 2023, the American, former world featherweight and second featherweight champion, complained about Vasily’s reluctance to fight him. Shakur soon defeated Edwin De Los Santos by unanimous decision to win the vacant WBC lightweight title.

Recently, promoter Bob Arum announced that Stevenson ended his professional career due to a failed fight with WBO super featherweight champion Emanuel Navarrete, who chose to fight another Ukrainian Denis Berinchyk for the vacant WBO lightweight champion belt (the fight has already been confirmed and will take place on May 18 in San Diego).

Despite the above, later the same Arum announced a possible fight between Stevenson and Lomachenko.

The title fight for the vacant IBF lightweight belt between Kambosos and Lomachenko will take place on May 12. The event will take place at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia, starting approximately at 5 a.m. Kyiv time.

Lomachenko fought his last fight in May 2023, losing to Devin Haney in the fight for the title of absolute world champion. Many experts then considered that the result of the fight was unfair. After the defeat, Vasily decided to take a vacation until the end of the year. In turn, Kambosos defeated Briton Maxi Hughes in his last fight, winning the IBO lightweight title.

On the Australian undercard, Mexican Carlos Cuadras will defend his interim WBC junior super bantamweight title against former world champion Andrew Moloney. Also, WBA world bantamweight champion Nina Hughes will meet with former champion Cherneka Johnson.
