Cepeda defeated Hughes in the sixth round to become mandatory challenger for two lightweight belts

One of the titles claimed by the Mexican will be played by Vasily Lomachenko and George Kambosos

Mexican boxer William Cepeda (30-0, 26 KO) defeated the British Maxie Hughes (26-6-2, 5 KOs) in the so-called “final eliminator” for the title of mandatory challenger for the WBA and IBF lightweight belts.

The fight took place in Las Vegas, America. The boxers started the fight on par with each other, but subsequently Cepeda’s advantage began to increase.

After the fifth round, the Mexican dominated the ring, throwing a series of punches. Hughes could only endure and fight back. In the sixth round, after another series by William, the British team stopped the fight early.

Cepeda became the mandatory challenger for two lightweight titles at once. One of them, the WVA belt, belongs to Gervonta Davis. The second, IBF, will be fought by Ukrainian Vasily Lomachenko and Australian George Kambosos. Let us remind you that the title fight between Kambosos and Lomachenko will take place on May 12 in Perth, Australia.
