Underdog managed to come back from 0:2 in the first half, but was brutally beaten after the break
PSG beat on the road with a big score Montpellier in a productive match of the 26th round French Championship – 6:2.
The champion seemed to have closed the intrigue by the middle of the first half – first, Vitinha, having received the ball from Kylian Mbappe, accurately shot from distance, and then the best scorer of the season himself scored in a counterattack.
But the favorite’s relaxation played a cruel joke on him: the hosts were able to score twice before the end of the half. Arnaud Norden scored a point-blank header from a flank pass and a deflection, and Tegi Savanier converted a penalty for Gianluigi Donnarumma’s demolition of Tanguy Coulibaly.
The Ligue 1 leaders hit the ground running from the opening minutes of the second half and quickly restored their two-goal lead. Mbappe managed a magnificent shot from outside the penalty area – the ball flew into the net off the crossbar. Three minutes later, Lee Kang-in upset Dimitri Berto with an equally cool long-range shot.
In the 63rd minute, Kylian scored a hat-trick, running towards the goal after Vitinya’s cross. This goal was Mbappe’s 21st in the current championship and 35th in 36 matches of the season for the Parisian club.
The Paladins were finally finished off by Nuno Mendes, who shot into the goal after another assist from Vitinya.
The victory allowed Luis Enrique’s team to score 59 points and already be 12 points ahead of Brest. Montpellier remained 14th, with Michel Ter-Zakarian’s side only one point above the relegation zone.
In the next round, PSG will face Marseille (7th place) on the last day of March.
