Athletistic / Olympics. The President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, discussed the position of the Russian authorities regarding the possible participation of Russian athletes in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris (France). The German said he was aware of Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin’s words that it was impossible to boycott the Olympics.
“We heard a rather polite signal from Russia. This was said by Mr. Matytsin. But, on the other hand, we also saw comments made in a very aggressive tone. The IOC does not comment this matter, but we see that the “Russian government’s aggression is increasing every afternoon. Against the IOC, against the Olympic Games and against me,” Bach said, as quoted by the French newspaper Le Monde.
The IOC allows Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games with a neutral status and under certain conditions. It should be noted that athletes from Russia and Belarus can participate in the Paris Games only in individual disciplines, while team sports competitions will be held without the participation of these countries.
