Olympic artistic gymnastics champion Nikita Nagorny said that due to social work he could not fully devote himself to sports, but retained the desire and ambition to participate in tournaments.
At the Russian Championship which ended in Sochi, Nagorny won three gold medals and one silver, but withdrew from the individual all-around final.
— My result should not be an example of preparation for competitions, because I devoted 21 years of my life to artistic gymnastics and during all this time I gained experience. Before becoming Olympic champions, I trained 2 to 3 times a day. There was an incredible amount of work, I endured injuries, experienced training and worked every day with the idea of winning.
Now I understand that there is a lot of public work and, perhaps, I will be more useful to the country in this way than in training and camps 12 months a year. But at the same time, I have the desire, the ambition and the opportunity to participate in competitions and perform well.
27 is the maximum age for a multiathlete in men’s artistic gymnastics. Any professional result implies devoting one’s whole life to work, daily training processes, discipline and moral, psychological and physical self-improvement. This is the only way to achieve the best results. Anyone who thinks the secret lies in talent or luck is absolutely not true. Only hard work and experience,” Nagorny wrote on the Telegram channel.
