“Mishin laughed that I resembled a snake, but not in appearance and performance, but in character.” Interview with a future star of St. Petersburg

13 years Agate Petrova This is not the first year that he has shown great promise. The figure skater mastered all triple elements, took second place at the St. Petersburg championships and seventh at the Russian junior championships in conditions of intense competition.

After the Junior Grand Prix final in Sochi, where Petrova finished tenth, journalist Maxim Khorenkov spoke with the young star of Alexei Mishin’s group.

— How satisfied are you with your performance during the tournament?

— In principle, the beginning was not bad, it was a great experience for me. I am 85% satisfied with the free program, 45% with the short program. If I had done the Lutz in the short program, it would have been better. I was in good shape, but sometimes I fail mentally, and I didn’t do my Lutz in training. I realized I was doing a lutz and performed it in the free skate. Sometimes the jumps don’t work and I start to get nervous and scared. This happens often, the fear disappears little by little, we work on it.

— Don’t you work with a psychologist to overcome fear?

— We have a wonderful coaching staff, we always prepare well. I consult Elizaveta Tuktamysheva a lot, although I mainly only see her in training. We get along very well, as well as with Matvey Vetlugin and Gleb Lutfullin.

— What do the coaches say about your performances this season? It looks like you can do more.

– I agree with you. This season the focus has been on competitions, now we have decided to jump as much as possible.

— Is Touktamysheva an example for you?

– Of course, a huge example. Since my childhood, I dreamed of being like her. My childhood dream – to get to the headquarters of Alexei Nikolaevich – came true. And to become an Olympic champion, all that remains is to perform properly.

— When Tuktamysheva took a break from her career at the beginning of the season, were you sad?

“I was a little sad, but I realized I wasn’t going to do anything about it. » It’s his choice.

Now she showed herself well at the Russian Challenge tournament, she made a wonderful performance that pleased everyone, especially me. I was incredibly happy for her.

— Now Lisa is trying herself as a commentator.

– Yes, I saw her, she works well in her new status. It’s very pleasant to follow the competition under his comments, no detail escapes him.

– You have a very interesting coaching staff – Alexey Nikolaevich Mishin, Tatyana Nikolaevna Mishina, Vlad Sezganov, Sonya Samodurova. Who do you communicate with the most?

— With everyone, everyone works together, with older and younger guys. We have a very large headquarters – many choreographers, specialists in jumping and sliding. Recently, the boss [Мишин] helped me with the free program, which I skated well in the Grand Prix final.

— I have often noticed Mishin’s very particular sense of humor. Does he joke a lot during training?

– Yes, very much! .. He laughed, saying that I resembled a snake, but not in appearance, in performance, but in character.

He actually jokes a lot and asks at the end if he liked a certain story. At first it was strange for me, but now I got used to it.

— Samodurova hasn’t been coaching for a long time. How do you find her in her new role?

“It’s a pleasure to work with Sonya, she gave me a program, we practiced it a lot. We are like sisters. Nobody argues with her, everyone is happy that she coaches.

— Do you have tasks to learn new elements?

— Yes, we didn’t do it much because of the abundance of departures. We will now start working on jumps and ultra-si elements. We will continue to study the quadruple toe loop and try the triple axel, it works well on the ground. Okay, a triple lutz, we’re going to try to do a quadruple.

— Dikiji recently jumped a quadruple axel.

– Yes, it was interesting. I understood that he could do it, because his triple is very good. I saw the video the next day, because I am subscribed to many popular channels on Telegram. I was surprised and delighted, I didn’t expect him to do this in the near future. His jump looked really good. Well, overall he had a solid season.

— Tatiana Nikolaevna [Мишина] He seems like a very kind and affectionate person. Does she ever scream during training?

– No never. She always explains everything clearly and carefully, very kind and understanding. I wouldn’t say that any member of the coaching staff can shout and swear.

— You said that you subscribed to a number of telegram channels. How do you manage to stop thinking about figure skating?

— In the evening before going to bed and after homework, I play with my sister and brother, I sit on the phone, I talk with my mother. I leave for training at eight in the morning and arrive at eight in the evening. We have little time, but we try to pay a lot of attention to each other as a family.

I study in an online school, I don’t even know my new class. When I have a break, I forget about school, and when there is a break, I try to end the term immediately.

— You don’t follow other sports?

— No, but dad really likes hockey, sometimes I watch SKA matches with him. He’s a calm fan, who analyzes something behind the TV like a coach, but I don’t understand anything and I agree with him. My brother was a hockey player, my father played too. I was also supposed to become a hockey player, I even had a uniform, but then I saw figure skating.

— What is the most difficult subject for you?

— Physics, but for the moment I only have B or A grades. I’m more of a humanist.

— Which foreign athletes do you admire?

— Luna Hendrix is good. Isabeau Levito, I didn’t know her before, but now I really liked her during the screenings. Nastya Gubanova’s skating is impressive – light and airy. We didn’t come across it, because the rinks are far from each other.

I would also like to participate in international competitions and try something new on my own. I hope after a while we will be allowed. I want to feel these emotions. In my career there have already been Grand Prix stages and Russian championships, but in world competitions everything is different. Sonya said it was a different setting, atmosphere and good impressions. These words touched me, and now I really want to try myself there.

— When the Olympic Games took place in Sochi, you were four years old. Don’t you remember anything from the figure skating tournament?

— I remember that at the age of five I went to Sochi after the Olympics for a gymnastics training camp, training with very good athletes, champions. Once we went to the Carmen ice show, Adelina Sotnikova and other famous figure skaters took part in it, and I was attracted.

Everything was fine in art, but at eight years old I realized that I didn’t have time to study figure and gymnastics at the same time. In the morning I was on the ice, in the evening I was in art until the evening. Then the school appeared, and I had to choose, and besides, because of my studies, I had poor results in gymnastics. I decided to just focus on skating.

— Many teenagers have a great love for animals. Do you have pets?

— I have a cat, a dog, two guinea pigs and I also had a chameleon. I want another cat. The parents said there were too many people in the house (Laughs).

I was talking about a spitz, so small. So, I have an American Bully, he’s not small at all, he weighs twice as much as me. I walk him myself, walking with him like on a treadmill. And when he sees another dog, I try to hold on to something to face him. Everyone says the dog looks mean, but he’s actually very nice.

BLITZ:

— How often can you afford to eat at a fast food restaurant?

– Twice a week. I gain little, my weight is stable, more or less 500 grams.

—When was the last time you read?

— I have never had difficulty reading. A choreographer once said that you should read The Little Prince, so it’s better to watch it (Laughs).

– What kind of music do you listen to?

— I’m a music lover, I listened to K-pop after Zhenya Semenenko. The younger sister is now also a K-pop fan, she is also busy, she does gymnastics, she went because she was afraid of falling.

– What is your dream?

– I don’t know, I don’t have enough time to dream, I need to work. On a sporting level, of course, I want to improve. And outside of sport, spend more time with family. In the summer, there will be a week and a half, we will go to my grandmother’s house, we haven’t been to her house for four years.
