“Today’s statement by Bach is absolutely scandalous. It is surprising that the person responsible for the development of world sports calls for refusal to participate in competitions. This contradicts his direct responsibility for the development of sports in different countries! If he has questions about the “Friendship Games, let him discuss it with his Russian colleagues. Instead of supporting these games, he is trying to divide the entire sports world, putting the country’s leaders in a dilemma. Bach got too involved in politics,” Svishchev noted for SE.
On Tuesday March 19, the IOC released a statement on its official website condemning moves to politicize sport, including the creation of politicized sporting events by the Russian government.
The Friendship Games are scheduled for September 15-29 and will be held in Moscow and Yekaterinburg.
