Only Russian swimmers registered with neutral status will be able to meet the standards for participation in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris during competitions in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Russian athletes will compete in the city of Banja Luka on April 27-28. Among the athletes who have confirmed their participation, only Ivan Girev has neutral status.
— These competitions are not a debut under the auspices of World Aquatics. Russian athletes will only be able to qualify for the Olympics if they are registered as neutral. Any athlete with neutral status who participates in this competition or in other competitions will be able to obtain a qualifying result to participate in the Paris Games, the organization’s press service told .
On Tuesday, it became known that the maximum number of Russian athletes who can participate in the Games in neutral status is 55, but it is “unlikely to be reached.” Currently, 12 Russians have qualified for the Olympics.
The IOC announced in December 2023 that it would allow Russian athletes who successfully qualified for the 2024 Olympics to have individual neutral status without a flag, anthem or other national symbol. The IOC also banned the participation of athletes associated with security forces or who have expressed support for the SVO.
The Paris Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
