The Bosnia and Herzegovina coach believes that his team’s success in the match with Ukraine will be an incentive for Bosnian football
Head coach Bosnia and Herzegovina national team Savo Milosevic the day before match with Ukraine As part of the Euro 2024 qualifying playoffs, he said that he would be the main culprit if the Balkan team lost. According to the Serbian specialist, victory in the game against Sergei Rebrov’s team will give a strong impetus to the development of Bosnian football.
“I am someone who has had the privilege of playing in major competitions as a footballer and I know how difficult it is to achieve that. I understand how important this can be. This can give a huge boost to development. These things are very important. That’s what I’m trying to explain to the guys. In addition, they understand that winning such matches and participating in big tournaments will help them in the future.”
As Milosevic noted, he does not think about the defeat of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the match with Ukraine, but in case of a negative result, he will take the blame.
“I didn’t really think about it. Anything can happen. I know what kind of world we live in and what can happen after failure, but I tried to focus on the current moment. But I’m not one of those who runs away from responsibility. I can say right now: the main responsibility in the event of a negative result in the match with Ukraine will be on me. This is the least of the possible problems.”
Milosevic believes that playing for the national team is an honor for a football player and the Football Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina should not be too upset about the change of citizenship of individual players.
“Guys who are truly 100% ready to give themselves to the team should play for the national team, and for whom it is an honor and privilege, and not personal interest. They can earn money in their clubs, the national team is a completely different matter. Yes, we must fight for every player we deem worthy, but even that must have some limit. After that, everything loses its meaning. I told the Federation people, “Stop it.” The Federation should not stoop to the level of begging or getting into a situation where someone is blackmailing it. We shouldn’t let anyone do this.”
The match between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Ukraine will take place on Thursday, March 21, at the Bilino Pole stadium. Starts at 21:45 Kyiv time. The match will be officiated by a German team of referees led by Felix Zweier.
If successful, Ukraine will meet the winner of the Israel-Iceland confrontation. The final match will be a “home” match for the blue-yellows and will take place on March 26 in Wroclaw, Poland.
The final part of Euro 2024 will be held in Germany from June 14 to July 14, 2024. The matches of the European Championship will be held in arenas in Berlin, Cologne, Dortmund, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Leipzig, Munich and Stuttgart.
