Russian 110m hurdles world champion Sergei Shubenkov explained why he hadn’t watched a single broadcast of the 2022 World Championships in Athletics.
– The World Athletics Championships are coming to an end … And I didn’t watch it. So sometimes I read notes about the results and watched the highlights (the barriers, by the way, worked great, but not supernaturally, and at the end of the final there were only 5 people left, so that could well be my sixth world championship of my career and my fifth in a row with a medal), but did not turn on a single broadcast. I wanted to, but changed my mind – because it’s become disgusting to think that the world championship has turned into some kind of all-American cabal, where more than a hundred athletes can’t not be admitted, because they did not give birth … Uh, in the sense of a passport (in addition to the national teams of Russia and Belarus, in the United States another 63 athletes from different countries were captured due to visa issues). Oh, World Athletics is going in the wrong direction, so after a while (still a long time) the name of the world will become moot, – Shubenkov wrote in his Telegram channel.
The IOC has recommended that federations remove Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in all international competitions related to events in Ukraine.
The 2022 World Championships in Athletics took place in Eugene, USA from July 15-24.
