Skier Ermil Vokuev told that he and his partner Ilya Semikov did not lose face and played with dignity against the strongest athletes of the team sprint of the Russian Championship in Malinovka.
Vokuev and Semikov, representing the first team of the Komi Republic, won silver medals on Wednesday. The victory was won by Savely Korostelev and Alexander Bolshunov, playing for the first team of the Arkhangelsk region. Third place was taken by Ivan Gorbunov and Sergey Ardashev, representing the first team of the Republic of Tatarstan.
On Tuesday, Vokuev took first place in the classic time trial.
— After yesterday’s gold, money is no longer perceived this way?
– Not really. Any medal is a good result. Especially in team form. Ilya and I worked well. We worked against the strongest drivers of this and previous seasons, they are leaders in the general classification. They showed off their skills, but we didn’t fall flat on our faces. They showed what they were capable of.
— How would you evaluate your tandem with Semikov?
— If I remember correctly, it was the first time we ran together. Before that, there were always different teammates. That same year, we managed to escape together.
— The Komi team still has to prove itself in this championship, apparently?
“Yes, we will get together and show the result at the relay,” Vokuev told .
The Russian championship takes place at the Malinovka ski center in the Arkhangelsk region from March 16 to 24.
