Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin proposed to start work on organizing a friendly match between the volleyball teams of Russia and Serbia, and also noted that the countries adhere to a common position on the inadmissibility of politicization and discrimination in sport.
— We are happy that Serbian athletes are actively participating in events in Russia. A striking example of our cooperation was the participation of more than 40 Serbian athletes in the world’s first physical tournament “Future Games”. In turn, 660 Russian athletes took part in the competitions in Serbia, and in 2024 we will not lower the bar in this direction.
Sport is a platform for unification and open dialogue. This is confirmed by a football match between our national teams. Today we will each support our own team, but together we will support this sport. I propose not to stop there and start working on organizing a similar match between the national volleyball teams,” Matytsin was quoted as saying by the press service of the Ministry of Sports.
The parties also discussed plans to sign an interministerial memorandum on cooperation in the field of physical culture and sports. Serbian Sports Minister Zoran Gajic highlighted the content of the points in the document.
— I like the approach to preparing the memorandum: both parties pay great attention to the content; it is not only formal in nature, but actually reflects the priorities of our long-term interaction. Our countries are historically strong in the field of sport; few others can boast five Olympic medals in team sports. Therefore, I am sure that no one can tell us how to work on the development of sports in Russia and Serbia.
I am happy to see the proposal to organize a volleyball match, we will definitely work on it,” Gayich said.
A friendly match between the football teams of Russia and Serbia will take place on March 21 at the Dynamo Stadium in Moscow, the match will start at 20:00.
The match will be broadcast live on the channel, the broadcast begins at 6:30 p.m. Moscow time. You can also follow the event on the MATCH PREMIER TV channel and on the matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru websites.
