Roman scored a goal and an assist at the end of the meeting
Forward of the Ukrainian national team Roman Yaremchuk summed up the results of the victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina (2:1) in the semi-finals of the qualifying playoffs for the 2024 European Championship.
“Bosnia and Herzegovina, like us, wanted to go to the Euro. They have a very well organized team, good players. It was a difficult match, but it’s good that everything ended well. We return to Poland in a good mood. We know there will be a lot of Ukrainian [болельщиков], you need to please them. Ukrainians need a little positivity now.”
“Going out on the field with Artem Dovbik? I tried to find a free zone for myself. I knew that there were players who could give a good pass. Received a good pass and scored. It turned out fantastic. Good ending. It’s good when everything ends well.”
“My functions when playing two strikers? They don’t change. We also apply pressure and cling to the balls together. I’m not used to it, because Valencia plays with two strikers. I feel more comfortable [в модели] with two strikers. He played his last games in the national team as the only striker. When you have good football players with you, it’s nice to play, win matches and score goals.”
“Have you discussed this with Sergei Rebrov? But he knows everything, he doesn’t need to talk. He watches all the matches and has a full analysis of my games.”
“This is my job. When you enter the field as a substitute, you need to strengthen your game. It turned out that I stepped up the game and made an assist to Artem. He needed this goal for confidence. Glad he scored. We are moving forward as a team.”
“Thank you very much to the fans, I miss them. I really want to play in Ukraine in front of our fans. Thank you for coming. When you play for the national team, it’s only to please them, as well as the guys who are now at the front and holding the defense. I hope they are very happy now. I just want to give them a big bow and thank them for protecting us, my family, and friends. I am very grateful to them.”
Roman appeared on the field in the 81st minute. Four minutes later, Yaremchuk scored a goal after an assist from Efim Konoplya, and in the 88th minute the forward assisted Artem Dovbik. The forward was recognized as “Left of the match” with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In the qualifying final, Sergei Rebrov’s team will play against Iceland. The nominally home match for Ukraine will take place in Wroclaw, Poland, on March 26.
