Edin admits that the defeat from Ukraine is very disappointing
Leader and Captain of Bosnia and Herzegovina Edin Dzeko commented on the defeat to Ukraine (1:2) in the semi-finals of the Euro 2024 qualifying playoffs.
“It’s sad that we conceded a goal on the counter-attack, which is their best weapon and which we avoided the whole game. The guys did everything they could.”
“At the 60th and 70th minutes, the convulsions started. It shows that the guys gave it their all and I think we deserved a lot more. We really did everything we could, prepared and played one of our best games.”
“There are a lot of young players, I think fatigue also played a role, but these guys have a future. If they continue like this, our performances can be much better.”
At the beginning of the second half, the Bosnians succeeded in their attack, during which Nikolai Matvienko cut the ball into his own goal. The Ukrainians managed to equalize the score at the end of normal time thanks to a goal from Roman Yaremchuk. And three minutes later, Yaremchuk made an effective cross to Artem Dovbik, which brought the blue-yellows victory.
In the qualifying final, Sergei Rebrov’s team will play against Iceland. The nominally home match for Ukraine will take place in Wroclaw, Poland, on March 26.
