Athletistic/Figure skating. Japanese figure skater Kaori Sakamoto won the World Figure Skating Championships in Montreal, Canada. Her total score for the short and free programs was 222.96 points.

American Isabeau Levito took second place with a score of 212.16, and third place went to Kim Chae-yong of South Korea, who scored 203.59 points. Belgian Luna Hendricks, who was in the lead after the short program, finished in fourth place with a score of 200.25 points.

Former Russian figure skater Anastasia Gubanova, representing Georgia, took 13th place with a score of 182.42 points.

Sakamoto became the first figure skater in 56 years to become world champion three times in a row. The previous athlete to achieve this result was American Peggy Fleming in 1966-68.
