Tarasova: “Malinin exceeded all expectations, improved his skating over the year, learned all quadruple jumps”

American figure skater Ilya Malinin with his skating at the World Championships in Montreal, he proved that human abilities are limitless, he exceeded all expectations, the Honored Coach of the USSR told Tatyana Tarasova .

Malinin won the first world championship title at the singles tournament in Montreal, Canada, by performing six quadruple jumps during his free program, including a 4.5 Axel. The American also set a world record for most points scored on the second day of competition (227.79), beating Nathan Chen’s score (224.92) from 2019. At the same time, Chen continues to hold the world record for the total – 335.3 points. Malinin, 19, scored 333.76 in two rentals.

– Malinin was head and shoulders above everyone. But I would like to draw your attention to the following: everyone wants to ban quadruple jumps, limit them in one way or another, the ISU says that it is necessary to make the program easier. But such remarkable athletes as Malinin prove the opposite. Ilya has been pushing figure skating forward for many years! He exceeded all expectations, over the course of a year he improved his skating, became more interesting in skating and learned all the quadruple jumps. His quadruple axel is something astonishing. Athletes and their coaches prove that human capabilities are limitless,” Tarasova told .

Japan’s Yuma Kagiyama won silver in the men’s tournament in Montreal (309.65), while bronze went to Frenchman Adam Xiao Him Fa (284.39).

Malinin was born in the United States to the family of figure skaters Tatyana Malinina and Roman Skornyakov, who competed internationally for Uzbekistan.
