Olympic champion at the 1988 Games in Calgary (Canada), Soviet and Russian figure skater Natalya Bestemyanova reacted to the victory of American figure skater Ilya Malinin at the 2024 World Championships in Montreal (Canada). According to her, the 19-year-old American is a unique skater.

“Compared to Malinin, the other skaters didn’t skate very well. Ilya was head and shoulders above everyone, he jumped a quadruple Axel and he skated like a god. Quadruple Axel is a single jump, and so far only Ilya has performed it in competition. A few weeks ago, Vladislav Dikidzhi posted a video in which he also performed a quadruple axel, but the Russian did it at the training. And Malinin is a unique skater,” Bestemyanova said, as quoted by Match TV.
