The Japanese woman beat the Ukrainian tennis player in the third round of the tournament in Miami
Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka commented on the victory over the first racket of Ukraine Elina Svitolina in the second round of the WTA 1000 tournament Miami.
“It was a difficult match, but all my matches against Svitolina have always been difficult. I take this as a useful experience for myself, because she is an excellent player. I thought it was a very exciting fight. The atmosphere was very loud and emotional. It was very cool to play on this court.”
“I think we both played very well. I hope Elina will say the same. She returned a lot of balls to my half of the court, although I was really trying to score winners. We have to give her credit for that. During the match I was just thinking that Svitolina is an incredible player, so I’m very happy that I was able to win in straight sets. I think I showed good poise when I didn’t serve for the win, but I was still able to finish the match in my favor in the tiebreaker.”
Svitolina lost to the former world number one in two sets. In the second game, Elina came back from a score of 3:5, but lost in the tiebreaker.
Angelina Kalinina remains the only representative of Ukraine at the tournament in Miami. The Ukrainian beat the second racket of the world, Aryna Sabalenka, in the third round.
