Athletistic / Figure skating. American figure skater Ilya Malinin became world figure skating champion. This happened last night during a tournament in Montreal (Canada).
For his performance in the free program, Malinin received 227.79 points and his final scores for the sum of two programs (short and free) were 333.76 points. Note that the 19-year-old American set a world record for the number of points for a free program. Ilya’s result was the best with the current points system (introduced since the start of the 2018/2019 season).
Note that the record holder for the total number of programs is another American, Nathan Chen, who won the ISU Grand Prix final of the 2019/2020 season with a score of 335.3 points.
Ilya Malinin became world champion for the first time. Previously, his best result at the World Championships was a third place at the 2023 World Cup.
