Ukrainian Kurchenko won a gold medal at the Grand Slam judo tournament in Tbilisi

The bronze award went to Elizaveta Litvinenko

Ukrainian judoka Yulia Kurchenko won a gold medal at the Grand Slam series stage in Tbilisi. Another Ukrainian Elizaveta Litvinenkowon a bronze medal.

Both Ukrainians competed in the same weight category – up to 78 kg. In the semi-finals, Litvinenko was defeated by the Dutch player Goucher Stenghuis. Kurchenko reached the final, defeating European champion Alina Boehm from Germany, and before that she was stronger than the “neutral” Russian Lyubov Orlova. In the final, Kurchenko managed to defeat Stangeis, and Litvinenko in the fight for bronze was stronger than the Chinese Ma Zhengzhao.

Interestingly, Kurchenko won Ukraine’s first gold medal at the Grand Slam tournaments in 2024. This is also the debut “gold” of a judoka at this level.

Let us remind you that at the Grand Slam judo tournament, which took place in Baku, Ukraine won several awards. Kurchenko won a silver medal, and Litvinenko won bronze. Daria Beloded also performed successfully in Azerbaijan, winning bronze in the weight category up to 57 kg. And Ukrainian judoka Mikhail Svidrak became a bronze medalist at the Grand Slam series tournament, which was held in Tashkent.

The next stage of the qualifying competitions for the 2024 Olympics will take place on March 29-31 – the fifth Grand Slam of the season will be hosted by Turkish Antalya.
