Athletistic / Olympics. President of the Russian Fencing Federation (RFF) Ilgar Mamedov shared his opinion on the possible participation of Russian athletes in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris (France). The official believes that, for this reason, Russia should not be allowed to divide society.
“This will become a division of our society, this cannot be allowed. You must honestly say who you love more: yourself or the country. If you do not represent the country, but only yourself, then you must remember where you came from. and became an athlete. Were you born and immediately became an athlete? Or did your country still raise you? If you forgot all that and became great, then go to the Olympics.
I understand those who have a crazy desire to win. But going there in such conditions, I don’t understand at all. What’s the point? You probably want to be spat on your back, because 85% of society will not support you,” Mamedov said, as quoted by RIA Novosti Sport.
On December 8, the IOC Executive Committee decided to admit athletes from the Russian Federation and Belarus to the 2024 Summer Olympic Games with individual neutral status and subject to a number of conditions. It should be noted that athletes from Russia and Belarus can participate in the Paris Games only in individual disciplines, while team sports competitions will be held without the participation of these countries.
The 2024 Olympic Games will be held in the French capital from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
