Honored coach of the USSR in figure skating Tatyana Tarasova declared that the American Ilya Malinin amazed the world with her skating at the World Championships in Montreal.
The World Figure Skating Championships took place from March 20 to 24.
— The World Championships were worth watching if you are a figure skating fan. There were many outstanding performances. Malinin amazed the whole world. Lack of Russian athletes? It is now. “I don’t see the point in constantly talking about this,” Tarasova said, as quoted by RB Sport.
Malinin won the first world championship title at the tournament, landing six quadruple jumps during his free program, including a 4.5 Axel. The American also set a world record for most points scored on the second day of competition (227.79), beating Nathan Chen’s score (224.92) from 2019. At the same time, Chen continues to hold the world record for the total – 335.3 points. Malinin, 19, scored 333.76 points in two skates.
