Athletistic / Rhythmic gymnastics. An interesting incident occurred during the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup in Greece. At the award ceremony for Belarusian Alina Gornosko, winner of the ribbon exercise, a fragment of Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s First Concerto was played.

“I can confirm that Tchaikovsky’s music was played during the awards ceremony. My awards ceremony was broadcast live!” – TASS quotes Gornosko as saying.

A fragment of Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s First Concerto was performed at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo (Japan) and the 2022 Games in Beijing (China), during which Russian athletes were awarded prizes.

Due to sanctions by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), Russian gymnasts have been deprived of the opportunity to participate in international competitions since March 2022. Since January 1, 2024, the FIG has allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in its tournaments under neutral status, but no member of the Russian team took advantage of this opportunity due to their reluctance to take the stage without their country’s flag.

In January, Alina Gornosko received permission from the FIG to participate in tournaments under the auspices of the organization with a neutral status.
