March 25, 2024 – a new page in the history of Ukrainian football. On this day national Olympic teamwhich is set to make its Olympic debut in July, played its first match. On the one hand, the debut was a mess: Ruslan Rotan’s team lost to the Japan U-23 team in Fukuoka. On the other hand – expected: only one of the country’s national and youth teams started with a victory.
National men’s team of Ukraine
A lot has been written and told about the first match of the first national team of the country. In April 1992, in Uzhgorod, the Ukrainian team lost to Hungary – 1:3. The author of the first blue-yellow goal in history is Ivan Getsko.
Youth men’s team of Ukraine
In October of the same year, 1992, and also in Western Ukraine, the country’s youth team played its first ever match. The opponent was also chosen from among the neighbors: the Belarusian youth team came to Ternopil. The blue-yellow team included Kosovsky, Vashchuk, Luchkevich, Fedorov, and Gennady Moroz on the field, and the match itself, which took place on October 28, ended in a draw – 0:0.
Olympic men’s team of Ukraine
Ruslan Rotan’s team in Fukuoka, at the Kitakyushu Stadium, missed two goals from the Japanese Olympic team. Both goals in the match came in the second half: Sato scored in the 48th minute, and the match was summed up by a goal from substitute Tanaka.

National women’s team of Ukraine
In 1992, the national women’s team of Ukraine began to write its history. Moreover, unlike the men’s competition, it is immediately on the main arena of the country. On June 30, the match between the women’s national teams of Ukraine and Moldova was hosted by the capital’s NSC Olympic, then still called the Republican Stadium. The blue-yellows were led by Dynamo’s future long-term administrator Alexander Chubarov, and the match itself ended in a draw.

Youth women’s team of Ukraine
The Ukrainian national team WU-19 is a relatively young team and the only one on our list whose opening match ended in victory. In March 2018, the Ukrainian women’s youth team in Irpen finished their first match in history with a victory, beating their peers from Azerbaijan.
