Sorin: “In Russia, an athlete immediately regresses if he relaxes and starts crying even a little while wondering if we will go to the Olympics”

Senior coach of the Russian cross-country ski team Egor Sorine expressed his opinion in an interview with that the country’s athletes regress when they relax and even start to think a little about not being allowed to participate in international competitions.

Russian athletes have been suspended from competitions under the auspices of the International Ski Federation (FIS) due to the situation in Ukraine.

— In the absence of international competitions, who is the most difficult to motivate? A young athlete with no experience of these competitions, or those who have many competitions of this type behind them?

— Certainly, those who have already participated and who have already won something at the international level. It’s harder to motivate them, but as long as they haven’t lost here. As soon as they start losing domestically and do so consistently, they should naturally need to get back to where they are and start winning. And the competition between men and women is now such that if you underperform anywhere or get sick during the season, you immediately fall to the bottom of the protocol.

In our country, an athlete immediately regresses and sinks if he has relaxed and even begins to cry a little and cry about the fact that we are not allowed, wondering whether or not we will go to the Olympics, or to us generally wondering why he needs all this necessary. And then he immediately begins to think about how to get up again. So we shouldn’t have any motivation problems,” Sorin told .
