The Norwegian specialist also expressed support for our country
Head coach Icelandic national team Åge Hareide commented on the match with Ukraine in the qualifying playoffs European Championship 2024.
“All the players on my team are ready for tomorrow’s match. We, as a democratic country, sympathize with Ukraine. Iceland, like many countries around the world, accepts refugees from Ukraine. But we are athletes, football players, and we must concentrate exclusively on football.”
“Sometimes we have to play a more defensive formation, but we are an attacking team. Ukraine is very strong and has great performers. But tomorrow the final awaits everyone, and in such fights there are no favorites. I think the chances are 50 to 50. But if everyone considers Ukraine the favorite, this can put pressure on our opponent. Perhaps this will work to Iceland’s advantage.”
Ukraine’s nominally “home” match with Iceland will take place in Wroclaw, Poland, on March 26. The meeting starts at 21:45 Kyiv time. The match will be judged by a French team of referees led by Clement Turpin. The winner of the confrontation will advance to the 2024 European Championship, where they will play in Quartet E with Belgium, Slovakia and Romania.
Euro 2024 will take place in Germany from June 14 to July 14, 2024. The matches of the European Championship will be held in arenas in Berlin, Cologne, Dortmund, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Leipzig, Munich and Stuttgart.
