In December, the IOC allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete in the 2024 Games as neutral individual athletes. Last week, the IOC unveiled a flag and anthem designed specifically for neutral athletes that can be used at the Olympic Games.

“My opinion was expressed in Perm at the presidential council, and since then it has not changed and will not change. In Paris, it was said that the Russians should play in a team of homeless people, and now it has happened. A team without a flag, without an anthem and without fans will go to the Olympics.

I can only say one thing: if all athletes around the world competed in a neutral status and each country understood that it is its athlete on the podium, then the situation would be different. But all athletes around the world sing the anthem and flag and participate in the opening and closing ceremonies, except Russia. I find it humiliating that medalists stand under a white flag, and champions, at that, to music reminiscent of a “funeral march” instead of the national anthem. And Russian teams are not allowed to participate in team sports at all, regardless of their status! – said Viner in an interview with RIA Novosti.
