Athletistic / Chess. President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) Arkady Dvorkovich appreciated the decision of the Russian Chess Federation (RFC) to move from Europe to the Asian Chess Federation (ACF).

“Asian chess leads the world. India, China and Russia are world leaders in our sport. Asia competes with Europe and the United States, although we understand that states -United States now absorbs the best chess players from all over the world. And Russia, being part of the Asian federation, competes with the strongest Chinese, Indian and Iranian chess players.

The power of chess is certainly not lost on the Russians; It’s a huge experience and an opportunity to improve. I don’t see any problem from this point of view. Yes, in Asia there are fewer tournaments, longer distances. However, as chess develops, tournaments become more common. The Russians have the opportunity to play and improve. It’s good for the world as a whole. I believe there should be no bans or restrictions on the profession. Everyone has the right to play chess despite any political events,” Dvorkovich said, as quoted by Sport-Express.

Russia made the final decision to establish itself in Asia in April 2022. And on February 28, the FSR obtained the final support of its Asian colleagues. 29 delegates voted for the FSR to join the ACF, 1 against, 6 abstained. The transition finally took place on May 1, 2023.
