The head coach of the Russian national diving team, Svetlana Moiseeva, told that diver Viktor Povzner studied in the United States while competing for the national team; in 2022, the athlete left Russia and never returned.

On Wednesday, the press service of the Russian Diving Federation told that Povzner, 22, had changed his sporting citizenship and would represent Canada in international competitions.

— He arrived in June 2020 and received permission to play for Russia a little later. After closed borders opened during the pandemic, he left to study in the United States and came here to compete. But in 2022 he left the Russian Cup and never returned. He then applied to regain Canadian sporting citizenship, which was granted to him two months ago, Moiseeva told .

Povzner, as a member of the Canadian team, won gold at the World Junior Synchronized Ski Jumping Championships.
