Zinchenko: During the break, Rebrov told us to believe in the result, that we could score

The intensity of the meeting with Iceland was similar to the match with Sweden at Euro 2020

Defender of the Ukrainian national team Alexander Zinchenko commented on the victory over Iceland (2:1) in the final of the play-off qualifying for Euro 2024.

“Was this game emotional? One of. I also remembered the match against the Swedish national team at the European Championship – similar emotions.”

“Lack of emotion? I left everything in the locker room. Everything is great, we reached the Euro. I would like to really thank all our fans, we felt throughout the match how they supported us and continue to support us. Without them we would not have achieved this result.”

“I am proud to be Ukrainian, to be one of those people who are in Ukraine and give their lives to our freedom. This needs to be talked about and shouted about every day. And that’s the only way we can win. It’s hard to convey these emotions, honestly. I can’t be completely grateful and describe my emotions.”

“First of all, during the break Rebrov told us to believe in the result, that we could score. So that we continue to play, stick to our positions and believe that we can score. We also turned each other on because we understood that we were in for a difficult 45 minutes for the sake of the result.”

“I won’t say that the Icelanders beat us in the first half, we just conceded a goal. The individual skill of one of their players [Альберта Гудмундссона] — even before the game he said that we need to pay attention to several players. It was this player who scored three times against Israel, did a great job and scored a magnificent goal. But we reacted properly and got an important result.”

The Ukrainian national team defeated Iceland in a strong-willed manner in the final of the playoff qualifying for Euro 2024 (2:1). The blue-and-yellows conceded in the first half, but snatched victory thanks to goals from Viktor Tsygankov and Mikhail Mudrik after the break.

Sergei Rebrov’s team will play in a quartet with E with Belgium, Slovakia and Romania. The Ukrainians will play their first match against Romania on June 17.

Ukraine will play at the European Championships for the fourth time. The blue-and-yellows have consistently competed in the finals of the continental championship since 2012.
