“Now all of us – sports and political leaders – must come together. We must stop or at least make the Friendship Games in Russia extremely insignificant. WADA will do everything possible to prevent athletes from around the world from entering in Russia.
We need to talk to other African leaders and convince them not to participate in the Friendship Games. We need leaders like you, more influential, able to express their views with others. And then, it seems to me, all together we can change the current situation.
We do not trust RUSADA. Due to events in Ukraine and the geopolitical situation, we cannot travel to Russia. We can’t interview them properly. Honestly, I think RUSADA has a lot of people who are very interested and who I think are working very well when it comes to technical issues and doping controls,” Banka said.
We learned earlier that at the end of October 2023, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) had sent letters to all National Olympic Committees (NOCs) calling on them to ignore the World Friendship Games in Russia. These competitions will take place from September 15 to 29, 2024 in Moscow and Yekaterinburg.
