Victor’s ball helped Ukraine qualify for Euro 2024
Midfielder of the Ukrainian national team Victor Tsygankov summed up the results of the confrontation with Iceland (2:1) in the final of the playoffs of qualification for the European Championship 2024.
“I didn’t go into the locker room after the game because I was undergoing a doping test. I heard that everyone is happy. I’m happy for the whole country, for the people. First of all, I want to say that the guys at the front – this victory is for you. If it weren’t for you, this wouldn’t have happened. This victory is for our people and our fighters. I’m very glad that it all happened this way.”
“I say again, this victory is for our country, our people, our soldiers on the front line. We are not the heroes, you are the heroes, and if it weren’t for you, we wouldn’t even be able to play today. Guys, this is all for you. Glory to Ukraine”.
“I did three training sessions. Everyone knows what kind of game it was, I knew. Therefore, first of all, I wanted to help my country and team. Moreover, they counted on me and believed in me. I hoped to do my best so that we could qualify for the Euro.”
“They know what their strengths are. This team is very organized at the back and it was very difficult to break down that defense. They also scored first, and the game went in a different direction. But, fortunately, we scored the first goal, calmed down a little, then scored the second and were able to snatch this game.”
“Did it become easier after we leveled it? Certainly. I repeat once again: they defended well, they understood how they could win the match. It was very important for us to score the first goal as soon as possible.”
The Ukrainian national team beat Iceland in the final of the playoff qualifying for Euro 2024 (2:1). The blue-and-yellows conceded in the first half, but snatched victory thanks to goals from Viktor Tsygankov and Mikhail Mudrik after the break.
Sergei Rebrov’s team will play in the group stage of the 2024 European Championship in a quartet with Belgium, Slovakia and Romania. The Ukrainians will play their first match against Romania on June 17. Ticket sales for the blue-yellow matches at Euro 2024 are also open.
