In May, Denis will fight for the vacant WBO lightweight champion belt.
Egor Golubtrainer of WBO International lightweight titleholder Denis Berinchik (18-0, 9 KOs) spoke about preparations for the fight with the Mexican Emmanuel Navarrete (38-2, 31 KO) for the vacant belt WBO lightweight champion.
“This training camp is special because it is preparation for the championship fight. And we started it early – we’ve been training for the ninth week. This time we added some non-standard workouts, including exercises with an axe. A lot of interesting things remain behind the scenes; we don’t show it on social networks.”
“This is the second time we are preparing for a fight in Spain. Last time the fight failed, and after a certain stage of training we returned home. Undoubtedly, there are advantages here, including climate and warmth, as well as many opportunities for various training. We are gaining physical condition, our mood is excellent. I believe in him, I believe in myself, I believe in our tandem. I believe that everything will be fine and we will have victory.”
“I always feel responsible before fights. Every fight is very important to me. On May 18, the fight of our lives will take place, for which we have been working for a very long time and have been fruitfully preparing all this time. The previous fights were preparatory to the fight for the world title.”
“Our opponent is experienced, a champion in three weight categories at once. But Denis also has a lot of experience. We don’t pay attention to this, because this is our weight category, not his. I won’t reveal my plans for the fight. We are determined to win and bring the world champion belt to Ukraine.”
The fight between Berinchik and Navarrete will take place on May 18, 2024 in San Diego (USA). It will be hosted by the Pekanga Arena complex. The World Boxing Organization sanctioned this fight at the end of January.
29-year-old Navarrete finished in a draw with Brazilian Robson Conceicao in November 2023 and retained his WBO super featherweight title. If he defeats Berinchik, the Mexican will become world champion in four different weight categories.
The 35-year-old Ukrainian fought his last fight in August against Swede Anthony Yigit. Berinchyk won by unanimous decision and defended the WBO International title, which he has held since 2018.
