Former head coach of the Ukrainian national team Andrey Shevchenko visited a summer school in Warsaw for children from Ukraine. The legend of Ukrainian football met with children who were forced to leave the country.
“Almost three million children from Ukraine have been forced to leave their homes in the past five months as a result of the conflict. The physical impact of the war is obvious, but we must not forget the psychological impact on these young people.”
“It is not enough to take a child away from the war. We need to save children from war,” Shevchenko said.
“Sport has the incredible power to break down barriers and bring hope in times of despair,” added the 2004 Ballon d’Or winner.
Earlier Shevchenko became a special guest charity match “Iga Sventek and friends for Ukraine”. In Krakow, tennis players Sergei Stakhovsky, Martin Pavelski, Iga Swiatek and Agnieszka Radwańska raised more than 400,000 euros to help Ukraine.
Ukraine is opposing a full-scale Russian invasion for the 152nd day.
